Promise rings

A promise ring is a ring given as a gift that symbolizes a promise or commitment, even if the meaning real can be unique between the person giving and the person receiving the gift. Traditionally, a man gives a ring for the promise of a woman, although they are almost unheard of for a woman to be the one to give a ring promised to a man. Promise rings can take different meanings for different couples, they are traditionally for a commitment to each other, often a commitment that the couple will one day become engaged and later married. A promise ring is usually given to a woman by her boyfriend when the two are in a serious relationship but are too young or not ready for commitment, but that they intend to marry one day. However, promise rings can symbolize other promises, such as a promise to be faithful, a promise to avoid certain behaviours or a promise to be there for the other person. A gift of a promise ring should generally be accompanied by an expression of what symbolizes the ring to a couple.

Thus, what should you look for if you plan to give the gift of a ring of promise? This depends in large part of your relationship, budget and style. A man giving a ring for the promise of a woman to represent a promise of upgrade, towards an engagement ring when its finances allowing is not uncommon. A promise ring may be an elaborate diamond ring or can be extremely simple, while avoiding a single band that can be confused with a band of marriage is a good rule of thumb. The important part is that you donate something meaningful and personal to the recipient. What this means? In a literal sense, you'll get the ring engraved with the initials of the recipient, both your initials, or private message symbolizing the significance of the ring. Even if you do not opt for the engraving, try to choose a promise ring that fits in the style of your partner. For example, if you are a man giving a ring to a woman, taking account of the jewellery of her own that she usually wears, as women sometimes have specific preferences. If she always wears silver jewellery, a ring in gold would probably not the best option and vice versa. Most importantly, be sure to clearly convey what the ring represents after giving, to avoid a misunderstanding or unjustified expectations of your partner.
